FEDERAL ELECTION 2019
How to
vote in Reid

Make your vote count in Reid

ABC Friends surveyed candidates in Reid and rated their support for a strong, well-funded and independent ABC. The questionnaire covered the ABC’s role, funding levels, independence, freedom from political interference and privatisation. ABC Friends looked at candidates' past statements and actions on the ABC and asked what they would do to support the ABC if they were elected.

Liberal or Labor - what's the difference?

ABC Friends also took into account each party's policies, decisions and actions.

Over the past 5 years, the Coalition government has slashed more than $500m from the ABC with devastating effects on ABC programming. In July this year a further $84m in cuts will take effect - and that will mean more programs to go and the loss of up to 400 more staff. Cuts like this are unsustainable.

And last year, the Liberal Party's peak decision-making voted by 2 to 1 to privatise the ABC.

The Labor Party has promised not to proceed with the planned $84m in cuts. They have also committed to an additional $60m for local content, bringing their total commitment to $140.7m.

ABC friends is campaigning in this election because we're desperately worried about the future of the ABC.

A vote in Reid can make a real difference. Please vote for a candidate who strongly supports the ABC.
